Welcome to Lakeview Action Coalition

URGENT: Action needed immediately!

Illinois’ Operating Budget is in Crisis

Some of the cuts resulting from the budget passed by the legislature:

  • 26,000 seniors will completely lose their home health worker through the Community Care Program and services to others will be reduced by 45%.

  • 230,000 seniors will lose prescription assistance and the Elder Abuse program will be eliminated.

  • 150,000 children and their parents will lose their childcare assistance.

  • Early childhood education will be eliminated for 100,000 children.

  • 175,000 who depend on community mental health services will lose their care.

  • Community Youth Services and Delinquency Prevention Programs will be eliminated.

  • Homeless Youth programs will be cut by up to 75%.

Please make 3 calls to save these programs:

The following people are those who most need to hear this message, even if they are not your Representatives.  Please call to tell them how important this issue is to you and your community!

  • Representative Fritchey:  (217) 782-2458

  • Representative Cross, Republican Minority Leader: (815) 254-0000

  • Speaker Madigan: (773) 581-8000

Sample Message:

“Hello this is (your name) calling as a member of Lakeview Action Coalition. I am calling because I am concerned about the proposed operating budget. The current proposal will cut important services in my community and I don’t want to see that happen. I feel that an income tax increase is necessary to ensure that people that need services in my community can still get them. Please vote for an income tax increase to help fund the operating budget.”

The Lakeview Action Coalition (LAC) is a non-profit, multi-issue community organization. The Coalition is comprised of 40 institutional members, including religious congregations, non-profit agencies, banks, business associations, a credit union and a senior citizens caucus. These diverse institutions are stakeholders in the Chicago communities of Lakeview, Lincoln Park and North Center.

LAC enables its members to act on their values in public life by participating in the decisions that shape our community's future. We fulfill this mission by organizing people around issues affecting our members and by developing leaders through training, action and reflection. Since our founding in 1993, we have fought for justice, solidarity and diversity.

LAC is funded by its member institutions, foundations and other donors and by earned income. Members pay substantial dues in order to provide local, independent funding.

Recognizing that Lakeview is part of a larger city and region, LAC was a founding member of United Power for Action and Justice in 1997, a coalition of organizations across metropolitan Chicago.
